I lived in Madrid in the early 70s'. Can you still buy un bocadillo in the corner of the Plaza Mayor? Is the same kiosk/store still there?

How much do they cost?

Hi Joe Medano! Currently, there are restaurants in the two southern corners of the Plaza Mayor which sell bocadillos de calamares for 200 pesetas. Are you asking about the eastern or western corner of the two? There's another on the norther internal wall that sells them too. I'm sure their prices are higher than most other places though since they're in the middle of the tourist district.

[Bocadillos de calamares is one of the few cheap things you can get at the bars at Plaza Mayor]

Saludos, MadridMan

Anyway, the "bocadillo de calamares" from el brillante in Atocha square has the reputation of being the best now, but that is another discusion....

Je,je yes of course you can find at least 5 or 6 bars that produce squid bocadillos like factories. I love them!! and only 200 pts=1.1 dollars!
As for "el Brillante" I haven´t try their bocadillos but the area is quite shabby compared with Plaza Mayor marvel.

So Andres, could you name those 5 or 6 places that you like.

Is 200 pts. what I will pay for one in the PLaza Mayor elsewhere in the city?

THanks,

F

It is quite easy man!
Go to Plaza Mayor
Open your nose
follow it
and when you get to a window where you can only see fried squid take some money out for a greasy squid bocadillo and a barrel of beer.
ENJOY.

As long as how much are they at other places, who minds? I dont?

Cheers!

I've remembered something I have heard today in the radio, and that has shocked me...

It is a comercial of El Brillante!

What is even funny is that the man who speaks about El Brillante talks about the Bocadillo de Calamares, and what is even funnier is that he speaks with american accent. Moreover, he says something as "I have decided to stay in Madrid not for its monuments, not for its culture, but for the bocadillo de calamares de El Brillante!" smile

When I heard it I inmediately asked myself if the owner of the place didn't created the comercial thinking about MadridMan and the parties that are run at El Brillante, when a big group of those strange yankees gather to talk about with even stranger natives wink

Brilliant (pun intended) commercial!!!

Maybe that's the wave of the future for MM...selling endorsements of restaurants, etc. for commercial purposes.

Practice that Yanqui accent, buddy! :p

Hmmm....
