This is a terrific message board. I want to find out where the best salsa clubs are in Madrid or Barcelona since I'll be traveling to both cities. I'm not much into the bar scene but I love to dance!

You can try Puerta Plata on Orense or La Havana, both in Madrid. Be advised- most are South American so they dance REALLY well!!!

Forget about those clubs, they are only for the south american inmigrants in Madrid. That doesn´t mean you shouldn´t go there, it´s just that there are better places where to go, specially if you are serious about dancing.

Ramdall C/Ferraz, 38 is advisable.

Well, I don't know La Havana, and Puerto Plata is no longer in Orense, and it is more a merengue/bachata disco.

I am a salsa lover, and people say I do it fairly well (cuban style).

The places I recommend you are:

Clubs:

Randall
Tropical House
La Riviera
Azucar
Empire
O'Zona
,in this order.

Disco-pubs:

Parche
El solar de los aburridos
El Cafe del Mercado
Siglo XXV

Well, not all L. Am. people dance salsa well. Many don't (Although Cuban, Portorricans and other use to dance well). Salsa is known in all L.Am., but in many countries people dance it in a different way the original salsa was created. Much less bright.

All of these are safe places (99 times out of 100) but for Café del Mercado (9 times out of 10).

Hope this reachs in time. If you need more info , you can email me.

Ignacio

I agree 100% percent with Ignacio but on one
thing: When it is not too crowed to dance (usually is), the old Isabelian Palace, yes,
what we all know for Palacio de Gaviria, is a cool, cool place to dance salsa. Just in the city center as safe as 5 gorilas watching all
the time for the slightest sign of trouble, and an unbeatable atmosphere (a XIX palace ball-room).

You are right Andrés, I had forgotten that one. As you say, only when not crowded, which is its usual state like otheres.

I found very few people there, however who could dance salsa well.

Hi people!

Ignacio, we have talked about the Discos but what about the academies where you can learn
merenge (easy) or salsa (more time to learn)?

Skg, is Comercial Cubana the one in Alberto Alcocer st?

Cheers,
André

Hello Andrés,

There are classes (usually for free) in several of the mentioned discos. Also, there is Max Latino, and I think there are too at Circulo de Baile.

I learnt with a teacher that works in Parche, which I highly recommend (name Andrés).

Learning merengue (for those who doesn't know) may take one hour for those who have a good rythm or much more for those who don´t OR want to learn all the stuff that has been added to the original Dominican dance. Salsa is much more difficult, it will take months unless you have a teacher only for you, and have dance skills too.
