Welcome back to the beautiful , ancient Plaza Mayor in Chinchon ( 45km outside of Madrid ) . :jump: After being shrouded in renovation work for what seems like an eternity , it was formally re-opened by Esperanza Aguirre today ( She's President of the Community of Madrid ) .
The newly restored Plaza Mayor looks incredible ! Me thinks a summer trip will be on the cards ... Some great restaurants there and the village is beautiful .

Steve

Fortunately, my favorite product of Chinchon (anis seco) travels well. Unfortunately, it is unavailable for purchase in US (to my knowledge). I always sweat out the 2 bottles I carefully pack into my bags for the trip home.

Fortunately, I can have all I want this Thursday!

One can watch a short video of the inauguration (yesterday!) of the "new" Plaza Mayor in Chinchon at http://www.madridiario.es/galeria/galeri...-comunidad.html .

We are going to be in Madrid next week and we are thinking of returning to see the renovations of the Plaza Mayor in Chinchón. I am so excited! We have always gone by car but this time we don't plan on renting a car. SO, I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to get to Chinchón? I assume it is by bus. How often do they run and where do you catch the bus? Thanks!!

I'm anxious to read your reports of the "NEW" Plaza Mayor of Chinchón. I have a feeling they'll be mostly like, "Hey, it looks exactly like it did before!"

just got back from our trip to Chinchón. It was easy to get to by bus, so thanks for the information. Although it was so cold, we still had fun being there. It is a special place especially being so close to Madrid yet it feels so far away. We had a delicious lunch at the Cuevas del Vino , which is a place we have been to many times in the past and has good memories. It is a place filled with ambiance, very rustic and special.
The plaza mayor looks great too! It is a beautiful place!
