I have been reading a little about Expo 2008 in Zaragoza this year, and today's (15 June) New York Times has an article about it. Is anyone planning to go? I've never been to Zaragoza but it looks like a beautiful city. And, I see that MM board member Valenciano_en_Madrid recommended it in an earlier thread .

I saw that article, too. Would love to visit but can't just now. Also read that a Spanish company just won a contract worth something like 7 billion euros to build windmills that will be installed around the world. Tan bueno!

I'd really like to go too but lodging anywhere near there is very difficult.

MadridMan, it seems like you can get to Zaragoza on the Ave train in an hour and a half from Madrid! I think it is worth it! You should go...I really like Zaragoza and the Basilica de la Virgen del Pilar is spectacular.

I am considering the posibility of two or three consecutive day trips from Madrid on the AVE. May be this option is cheaper than a hotel room in Zaragoza. The trip takes only 1hour 18 min.
Here is an example of an electronic ticket:

Ida : Sábado 21-06-2008 Origen : Madrid-Puerta De Atocha Destino : Zaragoza-Delicias
Tren Salida Llegada Clase Precio (€) Tarifa
AVE 03063 06:30 07:48 Turista 50,90 Adulto
Importe Ida : 50,90 EUR

Vuelta : Sábado 21-06-2008 Origen : Zaragoza-Delicias Destino : Madrid-Puerta De Atocha
Tren Salida Llegada Clase Precio (€) Tarifa
AVE 03212 22:32 23:57 Turista 30,50 Adulto
Importe Vuelta : 30,50 EUR

Importe Total de la Compra : 81,40 EUR

Wow, Thanks for sharing this article, I didn't even know the Expo was in Spain this year. My husband has fond memories of Sevilla expo in 92 with his family.
Maybe we can make it up there too! Valenciano en Madrid, thanks for the train info!

Wow!!! It seemed like yesterday when I visited world expo back in '92, I even remember the stickers on the late 80's advertising it,,, now Zaragoza 2008!!! Incredible!!!

I only hope that they keep the fair grounds and preserve the beauty of it all unlike what they did to Sevilla and it's expo grounds,,, sad, sad thing to see,,, the monorail gone, along with many pavillions, unkept vegetation covered grounds, vandalism. They should have filmed the movie "I am legend" at the Sevilla world expo grounds and save money,,, that sad.

Anyway, good luck Zaragoza! I wish I could go and visit it.

It's hard to believe but next weekend my husband is flying to Spain and back from Sweden where he'll be working, and myself from Basel to attend my grandfather's birthday in Zaragoza, but it's such a quickie visit that we won't be able to check out the Expo at all!!! :-(
All my family comes from Zaragoza and I practically grew up in the "maña" capital, living there from the time I was 4 until I was 15....I'm quite disappointed....
