If you could choose your favorite beach town in Spain which would it be and why?
I am going at the end of May and beginning of June. I've been to Valencia and Mojocar -- but no other beach. Share your thoughts please!

There are so many to choose from – but I love Cala D'Hort in Ibiza. It's quiet, wild, and has great views of the craggy island Es Vedra. Try typing either Cala d'Hort or Es Vedra into google images and you'll see why I love it. For example, this one just came up: http://www.igougo.com/photos/journal_photos/RCI_Cala_d_Hort_01.JPG Ibiza has lots of beautiful unspoiled beaches if you get off the beaten track. So do the other Baleares, Mallorca, Formentera and Menorca. Check them out.

You've got me daydreaming at work now about beaches. I found a Spanish site (don't worry if your Spanish isn't up to scratch - there are lots of nice pictures) and it lets you select a region of Spain and see the best beaches and read reviews by people who've been there. Check out my favourites in Mallorca, Ibiza, Formentera and Menorca. Cadiz has some nice ones but they can get windy. So does the North but they can get wet. Anyway, less talk and more beach. Here's the link: http://es.rentalia.com/beaches/es/index.cfm/idgeo/.htm

I would definitley recommend the beach at camping las palmeras in tarragona. I think its called Playa Llarga. Its peaceful and beautiful and cheap to stay in one of the bungalows on the beach.

I agree with Berzabuena: as early as you will be there, Spain's southern beaches (i.e., Costa de la luz) are probably your best bet. I don't particularly care for Costa del Sol although there are lots of tourists. I would concentrate on the stretch from Cadiz to Sanlucar de Barrameda: not too many tourists that early in the season.
Unless, of course, you want to go to Portugal ...

I'm looking for a beach in Cádiz province next weekend in which to stay - NOT Cádiz CITY - and definitely not one of the beach villages with stacks and stacks of beachfront pisos. Chipiona's out too. We're not expecting to swim, just walk and have pleasant scenery. First I'll find the zone and then I'll look for lodgings in the "Hostels & Other Lodgings" forum category.
deibid, you don't mention WHERE in Spain is the above photo?
Saludos, MadridMan

I'd head to Zahara de los Atunes...it has become more popular in recent years but no big hotels and it's centrally located on the coast between cadiz capital y tarifa. Check out Vejar de la Frontera while you're there. Novo Santi Petri is really German and Chiclana has a nice beach (la barrosa). Here's a link I found in my favorites: http://www.andaluciasur.com/casas/zahara/casa4/index.htm

You are right MadridMan, I didn't mention it...directly. That is Sopelana beach, a few miles outside BILBAO, of course.

Some lovely beaches on that northern coast, usually with few people. Downside is of course the weather can be more changeable...

I'm sure this thread is pertinent while many Spaniards and other Europeans are spending the entire month of August at the beach! I am going through some magazines that I haven't read yet, and the July 2007 issue of Conde Nast Traveler has an article about "Best Island Beaches." The only listing for Spain is Playa de las Salinas. According to the article, "Every beach is a party beach on Ibiza, but this is the hippest." The article mentions that Playa de las Salinas is quite the party beach. And, if you want to "party where you sleep," stay at the El Hotel Pacha . However, that's only if you have a lot of euros to burn! Read the blurb about Playa de las Salinas here .

Hi! I've just returned home after a week in Galicia and I recommend you A Lanzada beach, it's near a town called O Grove. Other northern coast beaches that's worth a visit are Oyambre (Comillas, Cantabria) and Barro (Llanes, Asturias). Edu
