Hi, I'm from Singapore & we are planning to travel to Granda, Madrid & Barcelona in early May.
Our travel agency is not able to book in advance for renfe tix from Granada->Madrid & Madrid-Barcelona due to limited rights.
We have considered booking thru www.raileurope.com but the shipping fee is too expensive at USD35.

Now we are thinking if we buy the renfe tix 1 or 2 days before departure when we reach Spain? Is it too risky? Will we be guarantee a seat during these period of time?
By the way, we plan to depart Granada on 7 May & Depart Madrid on 9 May.

I would buy the tickets online and specify that you want to pick them up at the station. This is very straightforward and your seats will be reserved.

We have purchased AVE tickets twice on the Renfe website. The first time, we picked up the tickets at the office at the airport--no problem at all.

The second time, we purchased them exactly the same way, but the lady at at the Renfe office at the airport said she could not fine our tickets in the computer, and sent us to Atocha station to get someone to find them. The following day (which fortunately we had free) we went to Atocha where we found a kindly and accomodation agent who did find our tickets. But we had to go through a take-a-number system to get to talk with this agent--and there were 110 numbers ahead of us. Just be advised that the ticket pick-up may require some precious Spain vacation time!
