Joel, it will take a while before it reach Barcelona and it will take much more to Segovia and Toledo (works on the line to Toledo started a few months ago).
The AVE between Madrid and Lleida will start on October 11th 2003, though it won't be as fast as the one to Seville due to many problems. It won't use the state-of-the-art Talgo high speed trains.
To sum up, if I were you I'd take the plane. It is cheaper and faster. You'll have to wait until the AVE to Barcelona really runs at 350 kph.
