Hey All,

We are going to Spain in early September for a 12-day trip and want to see as much as we can but we don't want to sacrifice quality for quantity….

I was hoping you experienced travelers could comment on my plan below…

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

Day 1 – arrive in Madrid – see Madrid
Day 2 – Madrid (it'll be Sunday so try to see a bullfight)
Day 3 – day trip to Toledo (this is a Monday so I'm going to cross my fingers that things will be open.)
Day 4 – Go to Seville (by AVE) in the morning, see Seville
Day 5 – More of Seville
Day 6 – Travel to Granada by bus in the morning, see Granada
Day 7 – More of Granada, take the overnight train to Barcelona
Day 8 – Barcelona
Day 9 – Barcelona
Day 10 – Barcelona, take overnight train to Madrid
Day 11 – Madrid
Day 12 – Madrid (perhaps day trip to El Escorial)
Day 13 – Fly home :-<

Well what do you think?

Thanks
Ava

You may want to save toledo for one of the return days when you're in Madrid again before heading back home to make more sense out of your travel plans- and saving time in the back and forth- you may be overdoing it a bit- as you'll be doing LOTS of walking and there's LOTS to see everywhere you mentioned. But its doable.

Most of the daytrip tours don't operate Mondays so your Toledo trip will have to be 'on your own.' eek There's nothing wrong with that - I just wanted to let you know. rolleyes

Toledo is one hour south of Madrid. The bus station in Madrid for southbound busses is called Estacion Sur de Autobuses. It is on line 6 of the Metro (subway) at the Mendez Alvaro Metro stop.

At Mendez Alvaro station on line 6 take the escalators up to the floor where the ticket counters are located. There are many bus companies. Buy your ticket at the counter of the bus company "T. Galiano-Continental". They go to Toledo. Busses to Toledo leave every 30min. Cost: around 4 Euros to Toledo. Once you get the ticket, look at the electronic board for the gate number for the bus to Toledo. Go to that gate. Once you arrive at Toledo, you need to take a local bus to get to the top of the hill. The local bus station is 100 meters away from the "regional" bus station. Or a taxi would be inexpensive. -- Fred

ALthough you'll probably be tired at the end of your trip, I don't think you're doing too much. Your trip looks well planned, with 2 days devoted to each major city.

And, who knows? You can always change things when you get there.
