We will be in Marbella for a week at the end of March, then travelling for another 8 or 9 days. Given the distance, jet lag, etc. I'm thinking we might take a train from Madrid to Malaga, and get a car there. After the first week, we could return the car to Malaga, take a train to Sevilla to explore for a couple day (sans car); then rent a car in Sevilla & continue North (Toledo, Avila, Segovia?) staying in small towns; then return the car in Madrid and spend 2 - 3 days there without a car. Is this a workable plan or too unwieldy, expensive, etc.? Any input would be appreciated!

We rented a ar last summer in Málaga and returned to th Jerez. There was no penalty for returning it to a different location and it was cheaper than renting twice. Try Auto Europe for rates.

We really enjoyed the drive between Málaga and the Sevilla area. Ronda is wonderful!! smile

NatalieM:

I have both driven and taken the train from Málaga/Marbella to Ronda and Sevilla. When you get to Sevilla, you will not want a car.

NatalieM-

Take the train. It's cheap, nice, and clean. Ronda is only worth while town to visit between Malaga/Marbella. One full day should do it. Not necessary to spend the night. Good luck, chinaclipper

After spending 2 nights in Ronda, we wandered through other little areas. Two places which are on the map that we enjoyed on our way to the Sevilla area were Grazalema and Los Arcos de la Frontera. There is a Pueblos Blancos tour map available from the TI site which outlines several possible routes through this area. Outside of Ronda is a wonderful cave which can only be reached by car. The farmer who owns it gives great tours. We had a great time talking to him about the area and various customs. smile

In Los Arcos we ate at a place called Restaurante El Convento and had an incredibly wonderful mid-day meal!! It was one of the best meals of the trip. laugh
