Can someone please tell me the fare for a railroad round trip Madrid to Paris in May 2002? (I don't trust my Spanish to read the webpage correctly.) Thanks. ... wdc

Hi

There are 3 classes on the Trenhotel Francisco de Goya from Madrid to Paris - Turista, Preferente, Gran Clase.

One Way Madrid to Paris is in Euros:-

Touriste: E19.90
Preferente: E49.20 for one person or E33.30 each for two people travelling together
Gran Clase: E55.50 for one person or E37.70 each for two people travelling together

For a return trip Madrid - Paris - Madrid:-

Touriste: E33.83
Preferente: E83.64 for one person or E56.61 each for two people travelling together
Gran Clase: E94.35 for one person or E64.09 each for two people travelling together

There also seems to be a further discount if the 2 people are a pair, although I'm not 100% sure about this. It is only applicable in Preferente and Gran Clase and makes the price per each E49.50 in Preferente and E56.55 in Gran Clase.

There are conditions applicable and there could be reservation and/or supplements payable.

I hope that this helps. I have travelled on the Trenhotel Francisco de Goya from Paris to Madrid in Preferente, and while breakfast is supplied, the carraige only had toilets but no showers. There is also a Bar/Snack bar on board as well as the restuarant car.

David

David: A million thanks.

What a great facility this page! Imagine getting an answer (from Australia) in a
few hours to a question (posed in Washington, USA) about Spain. Incredible.

Early this year, Spanair had some unbelievable deals on Madrid - Paris (Orly) service. You might want to look into that as an alternative. rolleyes

Eddie: Thanks for the tip. But, unless I heard wrong, I believe that Spanair is out of business. Can anyone confirm (or correct) that impression? ... wdc

Its not a problem helping out. Thanks to the time zones your posting of 5.25PM on the 26th November was answered by myself at about 10.00AM on the 27th November (Adelaide Summer Time) (and at work too - but one needs a little sanity in your life so I always check my Favourite sites whenever I can during the morning).

This site has a wonderfully supportive group of people visiting it who have helped me in the past, and who will no doubt help me in the future. Just doing my bit to keep things moving.

Spanair out of business? eek Air Europa has gone under? eek They are operating as usual, as well as Iberia .

By the way, current offers Madrid - Paris return are about 130 Euros.

No, to the best of my knowledge SpanAir is still in business, flying (and prospering). They did (Oct 5) temporarily suspend their IAD-MAD service - they expect to resume in Spring'02. cool

Thanks all for your straightening me out re Spanair.

Clearly, I overintrepreted Spanair's (temporary) discontinuance of service from Washington. I am glad to learn they plan to return in the spring. ... wdc
