Hi, My husband and I will be arriving in Malaga on 5th of May where we will stay for a week and then drive on to Alicante where we will spend another week. We want to hire a car from the Malaga Airport for the duration of the two weeks. Can anyone suggest inexpensive car rentals? Thanks so much for all the other wonderful hints this site has given me.

After doing a lot of comparisons I also have reserved a car(3 weeks) with Crown... they are not at the airport, but they are suppose to meet the passenger and take them to the rental office... I opted for an "open top" in hopes of some sunny days driving the backroads.... timing is everything would like to join the party but I am not arriving until the 25th.......

AnchovyFront, thank you and that drink is in order. I have managed to reserve a car through Crown at very reasonable rates, tho' nothing as fancy as Jllawson ... just a Corsa, but it will do us fine.

By sheer luck, or good timing, it is my birthday on the 5th and I am going to stay in Malaga with my wife and four friends for a night on the town! A tip! When you get to Málaga airport, split up your party. One collects the luggage (you'll need a 100 ptas coin or similar for the trolley) while another *immediately* gets into the queue for the car hire. Most of the companies have offices inside the Arrivals Hall (but not all). Queuing there at bust times can take forever - an hour is not unusual.

Thanks for the tip, Davej and I'll be the one queuing for the car as my husband very cleverly opted for me to have the International Drivers Licence (methinks he wants to "check out the talent" while I drive)!! Driving on the right-hand side will take a bit of getting used to, but I'll give it a go Just 2 more sleeps and I'm outa here!!

I've stayed at Los Amigos, wow, exactly 10 years ago (how time flies). Anyway, it's a bit out of the city buy they have transportation and you can catch a bus from the road- duh, you're hiring a car. Nevermind. It's right across from the beach. Steer clear of the people trying to sell timeshares. If you choose to bathe topless at the pool, you'll surely be chatted up by many British men while their wives smack them with their handbags.

Shhh, nevado!! Don't let anybody know that!!

There is a supposedly (I haven't been yet) good beach bar now across the road from Los Amigos, called The Chicken Shack, with live music good food etc. It's not quite beach weather though Cheryl, today as it is pouring with rain. Never mind, good to get it out the way before you arrive!

Quick update to cheer you, Cheryl, as if you needed it! The sun has got its hat on today.....our washing is on the line, so we are confident that there will be no more rain! As I went past Los Amigos last night, I noticed that The Chicken Shack has been mysteriously lifted up by an alien force and dropped down a further kilometre along the beach! Methinks I possibly had the wrong corner in mind! Enjoy your flight.

Cheryl - I was lucky enough to be able to spend some time with AnchovyFront and family in March (yeah - since getting home in April - it's been hectic!!!! and just now I'm able to get caught up - and come back to my favorite website). Follow his advice on where to go - what to see - and so forth. I was able to not only discover some wonderful and unique spots - but also revise some long-held opinions (based on early travels to Spain) much to my pleasure. Hope you and your husband have a wondeful time - and a very Happy 21st birthday Anchovey!
