In the metro hall of the terminal itself, there will be a ticket machine, it lets you choose between 1way or 10trips

Do you have to pay cash for the 10 trip ticket, or can you use an credit card/debit card? If you have to pay cash, are there currency exchanges near the metro hall?
Thank you

There are more ATM Machines down toward Terminals 2 & 3 (Domestic) and more Currency Exchanges near International Arrivals Terminal #1 (Most U.S. arrivals). Currency Exchanges often charge a Minimum Commission, so it could to cost you $6.00 (ESP 1.000) to exchange USD $10 or $20. On my most recent 3-trips to Spain in year 2,000, ATM's did not charge a minimum commission. They also give a better exchange rate.

I have never tried to pay for a Metro ticket with a credit card.

You can't use a debit / credit card to buy a Metrobús. I don't know in other countries but in Spain people don't usually use their cards for such small amounts of money.

Eddie is right. They always charge a minimum commission and I guess it's higher at the airport than anywhere else.

Even though debit / credit cards are very covenient, remember that you are relying on a piece of plastic. Get some cash in case it doesn't work or the thing you want to buy can't be paid with card.

Regards,

Antonio

You can also, for bus travel, pick up an "abono" or "bono bus" at any kiosko (newsstand) on the street for bus travel...

Calibasco,

The old "bono-bus" is now called "metrobús" as it's valid for both "METRO" and "autoBúS".

As for "abono" I would understand you mean "abono transportes" which is a monthly pass.

BTW, did someone bother to have a look at the official subway site at http://www.metromadrid.es. They have all this information in English!

PS: To be exact, no all the newsstands sell Metrobús, though most do.
