A friend of mine is taking her 13 year old grandson to Spain for 2 weeks is May. They will be in Madrid for 5 days and walking part of the Camino for about a week. A day in Burgos and a day in Santiago. Needless to say, the 13 year old is excited - and, as I have just discovered, not only girls are fashion conscious at that age. rolleyes

He really is concerned about dressing correctly while in Madrid. They will be staying with Spanish friends while in Madrid so excess luggage (other than airport restrictions) is not a factor. Any fashion advice you guys can offer will be appreciated!

Hi Puna!

Jeans (Levi's 501 for instance) or dockers, and a shirt, a polo or even a t-shirt. Add Nike tennis shoes and he will appear a spaniard laugh

He will be fine almost with anything save:
  • Plain white socks with normal shoes (they could be ok with tennis)
  • A cap (no way!)
  • Sandals (if worn along with white socks he would instantly be labeled as an unfashionable "guiri")
  • Hip-hop or rap style of wear

For the Camino de Santiago he better takes shorts, and other comfortable stuff (white t-shirts, because it's warm weather usually), good trecking shoes (or boots or sport shoes), a jumper and a good coat (just in case it rains or it is colder than expected).

For entering the Santiago's Cathedral and churches along the Camino it is ok just the above mentioned. Try to avoid very excentric dressing. The rest is allowed (even shorts and t-shirts, it is assumed you are walking through the Camino).

Hope this helps.

Fernando

Hahahaha! Why am I a hero? rolleyes

I'm better than well here. I will tell you where I am when I went back to Madrid laugh

Let me enjoy a little bit more my "exile" :p

By the way, I'm really unhappy about what's going on in Spain, so being here is really relaxing.

And I'm coming to realize that perhaps a longer time move could be a good idea wink
