Looking for restaurant recommendations in Malaga (breakfast and lunch as well as dinner). More interested in a truly Spanish/local environment and menu than in elegance or appeal to the typical American palate. Any help is appreciate. wink

The one's I tend to eat in are more places for serving raciones and tapas, as opposed to a three course meal. You can find a selection under this thread http://www.madridman.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=000254

You will find good places everywhere for breakfast. A nice place for lunch is El Jardin, behind the cathedral. It's fraying at the edges a bit now, but it's got a lot of charm and the tapas and desserts are delicious. For dinner, we ate at La Posada last week and it was great. Their meat is second to none and the patatas bravas are excellent. Ask anyone for directions, it's right in the centre. Another good tapas bar is Siglo XXI in Plaza Merced. Ask for the chorizo al infierno at 300 Ptas it's a real novelty!

Thank you for your help. We are very much looking forward to our visit in September, our first to southern Spain but second to Madrid.

Best seafood in Malaga is generally to be found on the beach front in Pedregalego or El Palo (you'll need to take a cab or n. 11 bus from the centre). In Pedregalego try El Cabra, or Miguelito El Carignoso (amongst numerous others). If you can't get out there, try e.g., El Piyayo opposite La Posada (as recommeded by Sr. Front)

There are a bunch of nice restaurants (all very Spanish - apart from the Italian ones!) in an area east of the centre beyond the bull ring. Some are on Paseo de Reding/de Sancha and the rest in the streets from that road down to the Paseo Maritimo.

If you're in the area in the morning, have breakfast with the locals at Bar de Pries (Paseo de Reding).

I don't know if it's still there - I understand you can't get chanquetes anymore, but there used to be a place on the beach at the east end of town (wooden tables and benches) called 'Paco's,' I believe (or was it Pepe's?). Local families used to go there on Sundays. Anyhow, you could dine on appetizing varieties of seafood without putting much of a dent in your budget. rolleyes
