Our friends from Barcelona are visiting New York City in August. Their 2 boys (19 and 22 years) have been to the states and speak perfect English but the parents have never been and the father is learning English (and doing pretty good!)

I know from experience, they do not like spicy foods, so if they want to take a break from American food and try Spanish or Catalan food, where would they go in Manhattan?

Our favorite Spanish restaurant (for the atmosphere, professional waiters and good food) is El Charro Español in the West Village. It is not one of the "new" fancy restaurants, just a classic older place. Another one in the West Village is Sevilla, which has an old-world charm. Hope that helps!
