Hi,

I have some relatives coming from the US to visit and they have 2 kids (5 and 2 years old). I do not know where to take them to have lunch around barrio Salamanca, el retiro, centro, serrano. They are not used to the spanish food but I do want them to try out spanish food. I'd prefer a relax family friendly restaurant not the typical standing up tapa bars. Any suggestion? ideas?

Try VIPS if you want American style dining, along with food the kids might like. For a great restaurantwith a Spanish flavor try Restaurante Botín at Calle Los Cuchilleros 17 at the Plaza Mayor. Fantastic meals there. Kids will like the old fashioned atmosphere too.

I recommend the suckling pig!

After many years, I finally went to Botin two weeks ago and had the "cochinillo". It was fantastic and the restaurant was everything it was billed to be.

That being said, I had a better time at "Posada de la Villa" in November. The food was equal, the menu was more varied, (minus the cochinillo), the bread was better, the house red is Marques de Riscal Gran Reserva and to this day my dining companion shows me the front door key we got at the end of the meal!
