Madrid Walks?

In less than a week I'll be in Madrid. I made my reservations with Hostal La Perla Asturiana. Last time I stayed at Hostal Gonzalo, which is on a quiet side street. I know La Perla Asturiana is right by Metro Sol, which isn't quiet at all, but I want to see what it's like in a different neighborhood.
Anyway, Isn't it true that there are free or inexpensive walks given by the city council (or something like that?). Doesn't it meet at Plaza Mayor? I'm unsure. I could have sworn I read that somewhere. I've already done Stephen Drake-Jones' tour (last year), but I want something cheaper, and with other people.

Yes, there are some walks given by the city council. I think Antonio posted it some weeks ago. They are something like 500 or 700 ptas and they told a little bit of history. If you don't find the thread you will be able to get the information in the tourist oficce in Plaza Mayor.

While I don't personally know anything about this, I think it was Antonio who mentioned this to all of us the first time. He has some information on this topic under the USEFUL INFORMATION link on his Hostal Chelo site @ http://www.Chelo.com .

You can find more detailed information at the Descubre Madrid (discover Madrid) section of the Madrid city hall's site. I went on one of these tours ("Legends of old Madrid") and I loved it. It was at night and it lasted for about 2 hours. If you want to know about Madrid's history, don't hesitate to go on these walking tours. Enjoy them, Regards, Antonio ------------------ The best tips from your favourite hostal in Madrid. Hostal Chelo at http://www.chelo.com [This message has been edited by Antonio (edited 03-24-2001).]

I too went on the walk through Madrid that is entitled "Legends of Old Madrid". I went late last September based on the recommendation from a well respected Hostal owner. I enjoyed it immensely. The tour was available in English and Spanish and was a perfect way to spend the early evening hours.

I have tried to connect with the Madric City hall site, through your link, to check out the walks but have been given the same message that the URL is incorrect.
Can you check this out and perhaps re-post the link again.
Many thanks
David

I tried clicking on the link I posted and it works. Maybe the server was temporarily down or something. Try doing it again or go to the http://www.munimadrid.es site and browse until you find the "Descrubre Madrid" link. Regards, Antonio

Thanks for the help.
I also notice that it is in English as well, which is good as my Spanish is very, very basic.
Thanks again
David

Descubre Madrid tours are available throughout the year from October until July. During that period, all the different tours take place twice or even three times. Furthermore, there are weekly ones (eg. "El ayuntamiento por dentro") ------------------ The best tips from your favourite hostal in Madrid. Hostal Chelo at http://www.chelo.com
