Actually, that is far to general a question, try to be a little more specific (what kind of things do you like doing?, when are you visiting, for how long etc) and also do a search of this message board, you'll get pleanty of ideas.

Palacio Réal is nice. Plaza de España with statues of Don Quixote & Sancho Panza, Plaza de Oriente (but you have to do some research on the Visigoth Kings of Spain); the Plaza Mayór, Puerta de Alcalá and el Parque del buen Retiro is especially nice on a Sunday before dinner (11:00 - 15:00).

The canoeing club of the Royal site of Aranjuez organize canoe trips along the river that borders the Palace. It is more a lake than a river and I think they take children too. I can try to find their number if you are interested.
