I don't think most (or any) small bars or cafés will accept credit cards, no. But ATMs are plentiful so paying in cash shouldn't be a problem. The cost to the establishment to accept credit cards is high, much higher than in the USA so this is one reason they won't accept them. Cash is king in Spain.
In fact, in many or most places which offer the Menú del Día lunch also won't accept credit cards. Usually only the better restaurants will. Good luck!
