Howdy Folks,

I'm a lurker of some time with my first question.

My wife and I are going to Spain in early May. We'll be there for 10 days and we'd like to reserve about three of them for some beach time. By beach time I mean waking up kind of late, hitting the beach, getting a tan, swimming, snorkeling perhaps, a nice lunch at a seafood restaurant, more beach time, etc. You know--a vacation from our vacation.

Any suggestions on where to spend it during the second week of May? We had been thinking one of the Balearic Islands, or perhaps Nerja. Spending a bit of money on this part of the vacation is fine--we intend to be a bit more frugal during the more active part of the vacation.

The Costa del Sol has some of the awsomeist beaches in spain. I just don't know how warm or crowded your looking for in may.

I have heard that Cadiz has very nice beaches.

The Costa del Sol will be what you're looking for, although you wouldn't catch me going in the water voluntarily until June at least!

The beaches north and south of Cadiz are the best, but they will be pretty quiet at this time of the year i.e. no "chiringuitos" or beach restaurants open, apart from maybe Semana Santa.

Will the islands be any warmer? We were thinking Ibiza might be perfect.

No real swimming in Ibiza in May I think, but the Canary islands are great! there's some pretty cheap r/t flights from madrid that will get you there in a few hrs. even quicker if you are in the south (sevilla).
