I know I'm getting old when I read here about long lines of people waiting to enter so many Spanish historical sites. My strongest memory of Cordova, from some years ago, was of my valiant VW beetle managing to stay alive while transiting the main street, with mud over the hubcaps. No lines in front of the Mosque in those days. Or any other Spanish tourist attraction. It was come in when you please.

and we are only fanning the fire, gushing about Spain as we do here.

Ah, to have been there in those days. At least it isn't as bad as Paris yet...

You can still see plenty of historical splendor in Spain sans the masses, gracias a Dios.

Jul 24 '99 (the day before Santiago in Año Júbilar Xacobeo) I found some real crowds queueing to enter the Basilica by the Puerta Santa and complete their pilgrimage or earn the Júbileo. http://communities.msn.com/GettoknowalittlefromSpain

Eddie, March 2000, Madrid, also had some of the longest lines I have ever seen for, I believe, the same blessing. The lines were literally five and six deep and went for miles! With everyonen extrodinarily well behaved and patient.

No lines for the visitor attractions thou ...

Eddie- Great pictures on that site. I've seen lines in Compostela like that...yikes! I plan to be at the oficina de pregrinos some time in the spring of 2002 picking up my own Compostelana after biking from Valcarlos...not wussing like those hikers only coming from O Cebreiro!
