I was wondering if anyone had been to the horse racing and what they thought of it?
How does it compares in price to the bullfights?
Would you need to book in advance or could you just turn up for a race?
Lastly do people go there for betting or more just for entertainment?
After having seen a
mozo gored to death at
las Ventas bullring, I was 'put off' from the bullfights for some time. The
Hipodromo became my Sunday afternoon entertainment.
It's a wholesome atmosphere, unlike Racetracks in the U.S; it's more a family outing. As a matter of fact, families used to picnic in the infield.
It's much cheaper than going to the bullfights (unless you are a heavy bettor and loser); I don't know what the minimum bet in Euros will be but you used to could bet like 200 pesetas (about $1 USD). There used to be 3-classes of tickets: Infield, Grandstand and General admission(?).
You don't need reservations - buy your 'tout sheets' at one of the kiosks near
Metro Arguelles.
BTW
I believe the 'meet' moves to San Sebastian for at least the month of August (maybe more).
