Could you please tell me where Madrid's Calle Orense is (in relation to the Gran Vía)? It looks like we'll be returning our rental car there.

Hello,
You can get un plano de Madrid on any newstand on the street in Madrid. If you are driving it might be a good investment. smile

La calle Orense is north of Gran Via, very near Santiago Bernabeu stadium and the Azca area.

I used to work near the northern terminus of c/Orense. C/Orense runs north from the Nuevo Ministerios area to c/Rosario Pino. It is parallel to Paseo de la Castellana, and about two major blocks to the west of it. It's a nice area, more commercial than tourist, but covered with prostitutes after dark. Their hip boots are a dead giveaway. No problem, but just giving you a heads up ( oops, poor choice of words ).

Espanvol, enjoyed your webpage immensely, and your pictures of Spain. Do you mind my asking where in Madrid is your duplex? It would seem to be the neighborhood where I would want to live when I move to Madrid next year. Thanks

Thanks for your help in finding Calle Orense. I've asked the rental car company if there's a Gran Vía location and sure enough, there is. It's just down the street from the hostal we'll be staying at...much easier for drop off. And I had printed taravb's details on returning a car to Avis some time ago.

seul6, the duplexes are located in the pueblo of Húmera, a suburb to the west of downtown Madrid. The area is adjacent to Montecillo, and very near Somosaguas (U. of ), Pozuelo de Alarcon, and Aravaca. The closest metro stop is Lago, about a fifteen minute drive away, through the Casa de Campo. There is bus service in the "city center" (15 minute walk from the duplex) , but be prepared to wait. Closest train stops are Pozuelo and Aravaca, both being inconveniently far away along with parking difficulties. Bottom line, a car is necessary, but driving into and out of Madrid each day may have you longing for LA traffic. Another plus, if there are children involved, is that the American School of Madrid is on the road between Húmera and Aravaca. If you are really interested in the duplexes, I can give you the landlord's phone number via email.

Espanvol, thank you so much for the info.
However, since I am planning to take a sabatical from driving, it would be inaccessible for me.
