Below is our planned itinerary for visiting Spain and Portugal. We'll be travelling by train and bus, figuring things out as we go.

I'm wondering -- are all the trips between these places possible or will I have to backtrack to get between some places? And are most of the longer trips best done on overnight services?

We'll be staying 2-3 nights in most of the stops. Thanks for any advice...

You might already know this: the best way between Lisboa and Salamanca is by train. When I did the trip in February of 2000, the train left Lisboa at night, like 9 or so, and got into Salamanca 7 hours later. It is a really awful train -- little compartments with bench type seating, not good at all for the middle-of-the-night ride. I think it cost about $50.
