Is there any way to get to Toledo by bus? We are staying in Puerta del Sol and since I have a walking problem I thought getting a bus would be easier than getting to the train. Any help is appreciated.

Just to point out that the Estacion Sur de Autobuses in Madrid is not near metro Atocha, but metro Mendez Alvaro.

The advantages of the bus in the Madrid-Toledo route are:
- it is cheaper (4.25 EUR each way) and more frequent (every 30 min, or even less in peak hours) than the train. If you want to make it even cheaper, you can buy a 1 day-Tourist Travel Pass zone T ( link ) for 7.60 EUR that allows you to make unlimited trips for one day within all the Madrid region and some neighbour places, like Toledo.
- it doesn't require reservation, contrary to the train.
But I don't think it is more accessible for people with walking problems...

The trains to Toledo are brand new high-speed ones and even have places for reduced mobility persons. Actually, someone on a wheelchair can ride on them. Getting to a bus usually implies to climb two or three steps. That is what I meant.

On the other hand, the bus station in Toledo is closer to the tourist attractions that the train station. But that is what taxis are for (among other reasons).

Atocha is closer to the center of Madrid than the bus station and it's easier to get to and from in a taxi (which is what you will want to use if you have reduced mobility, because many metro stations have stairs). Once in Toledo, you can take a taxi or city bus from the train/bus station to the center of Toledo.

I don't have a problem with a few steps.
Where would the bus station be with relation to Puerta del Sol where I am staying?

Farther than the train station.

Walking distance (measured using Google Earth):
- from Puerta del Sol to Atocha station: 1.14 miles
- from Puerta del Sol to Bus station: 2.15 miles

By metro:
- from Sol to Atocha Renfe station: Line 1 (4 stops)
- from Sol to Mendez Alvaro: Line 1 to Pacifico (6 stops), transfer to Line 6 to Mendez Alvaro (1 stop)
