Have to say that we were really impressed with the Hotel Mirador de Santa Ana in Avila, for just €107 for a twin room for 2 nights. Good size room with small balcony. Great tiled bathroom with full size bath and shower over also a bidet ( or as we call it "the washing machine") plus all the toiletries you'd expect in a 4 star hotel. We didn't have breakfast but have been told its very good value.
Excellent free Wifi, only Spanish TV though. The situation is good too, less than 5 mins to the station and the same to the old town. Would definitely stay again.

Wow! Thanks for the review. The place looks great! The website says it's only a 3-star hotel, though. Maybe they were upgraded just before your visit?

And FREE WiFi?!?!? That's unheard of in hotels these days. That must've been a very nice bonus.

Is this hotel INSIDE the walls of Ávila or just outside?

You say it was 5 minutes to the station. Which station? That's the train station, right? And that's 5 minutes walking?

And while having breakfast is comfortable in hotels (and oftentimes immense buffets - although usually expensive), sometimes it's nicer and more "typical" to go outside to a nearby bar to have pan tostada con aceite with the locals.

Its less tham 5 mins walk from the train station and the same from the old city wall entrance where our friends were staying at the Cancelas(?)Hotel.
Sorry saw nothing of the old city on this visit as we were only there to watch the Vuelta. We did visit the hotel where Astana were staying ( The Isabel I think, just a couple of hundred yards from the station) but really only saw the hotel bar as we spent the evening talking to the English team mechanic!!

From what I could find out the Mirador was a Hostal until it was upgraded recently...breakfast buffet is well rated by guests and costs something like 4.85.
