Which hostel, Hostal Lopez or Hostal Adriano , would be preferable for Madrid tourist attractions (museums primarily) and daytrips to Toledo, Segovia, Escorial? Consider location, cleanliness, safety, ease of getting to and from airport.

Take a look at these two threads:

" Madrid:Adriano vs Lopez " & " Madrid: where to stay - Adriano, Lopez or the Monaco? ".

Also by doing a search, you'll find dozens (if not hundreds) of postings about each of these two find establishments in Madrid.

Hostal López is located in the Huertas neighborhood on the pedestrian street of Calle de Huertas. It's close to MANY MANY tapas bars, clubs, restaurants as well as a short walk to the Pradio Muesum (and others) and the Atocha train station IS walkable from here but it's a good walk. Hostal López is very clean, no elevator, the family is sweet and helpful, rooms are basic. Safety is probably slightly better than in, say, the Puerta del Sol area but not by much. Low violent crime, in general, in Madrid. See the Safety & Security forum for more on this.

Hostal Adriano is more centrally located than López, equidistant from the Puerta del Sol, the Plaza Mayor, and more or less on the edge of Huertas itself. It's near LOADS of bars with terrazas, restaurants, and ALL the touristic sites. Metro station(s) are nearby to get you wherever you want to go. Rooms are spotless like Hostal López, but quite a bit more "upscale" with decorations, a refrigerator, colorful, much more artistic but more expensive too. No elevator for the 5 flights of stairs but they'll carry your bags if needed. The folks who run the place are very very nice as well. The area is MUCH busier than that surrounding Hostal López.

Transportation to both from the airport is about equal, I'd say. MAYBE it might be a few minutes quicker to Hostal López since it's more towards the edge of the touristic center of Madrid.

Any other questions? Let's have 'em. wink

Saludos, MadridMan
