I will be staying in Alicante 3 nights at the end of September and am looking for a good place to stay.

My first choice was Hostal Les Monges Palace - but I procrastinated too long and they are already booked.

Most the options seem to be downtown Alicante or 6 KM north along San Juan beach.

I'm leaning towards a downtown location - as it would be fun to stay in the heart of Alicante with the shops and nightlife, and I can always drive to San Juan Beach. Hotel Mediterraneo is an option I'm considering.

Anyone have any lodging recommendations for Alicante?

Thanks
el tio

el tio, are you, by chance referring to Alicante City's 4-star hotel Hotel Mediterranea Plaza ? If not, does the other one have a website?

There are a few hostels (called "hostales"), including the one you mention above, in Alicante City which have websites listed @ http://www.SpainHostels.com/links/Valencia/Alicante/Alicante/

Yes, that is the hotel I was referring to.

In my search thus far, I'm surprised by the limited number of hostals that exist in the Alicante area! Most of the lodging appears to be dominated by the large hotels up and down the coast (e.g. Benidorm).

Tryp Gran Sol hotel is near the beach, near the center, and it is not so expensive. I think it is opened now. www.solmelia.com
