Hi Pim. Do you mean originally in English? Spanish? Spanish translated into English? Try googling and amazoning. I turned up this one which I'd never heard of:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1569473048/104-6377399-5832738?v=glance&n=283155

Also, a long time ago I read The Escape Artist by Jonathan Holland - who now writes an insightful blog:

If you mean in Spanish there are thousands, and if in English translated from Spanish, well there must be hundreds.

But, though not strictly a novel, the autobiographical trilogy The Forging of a Rebel by Arturo Barea is a wonderful read. It was first written in English, I believe, by the writer in exile in the UK and then translated into Spanish and takes the reader from the slums of Lavapies in 1900 to Madrid under siege during the civil war.

I actually have an answer to this one!

There is a book called "What's the Girl Worth?"

I bought it for my wife, so I have yet to read it myself, but she says it brings back vivid memories of Madrid. I think it's about an American woman living abroad and her experiences.

I don't have the author's name but I'm sure you could find it with the title.

"What's a Girl Worth?" is written by Christina Fitzpatrick. I agree that it brought back some student day memories of Madrid smile I read it a couple of years ago and it resides in our Spain section in the library. I also have a book "Travelers' Tales Spain" which has several short stories that take place in Madrid. The book is a collection of true stories by many famous writers. (edited by Lucy McCauley) I welcome more tips on this subject also.
