Have I missed something? What's supposed to happen and why? What's significant about today? Is it a "bad luck day" in Spain today??

Thanks MadridMan for asking this question, I was wondering whether I was the only one at loss. Is there really anything specially about martes 13 in Spain, would not viernes 13 be the day to be cautious about?

Tuesday the 13th and not Friday is the bad luck day in Spain and much of South America. A woman I knew in Spain said she never even left her room on Tuesday the 13th for fear of bad luck (I thought it too cruel to point out that the building could catch fire, the roof cave in etc. If you are gonna have bad luck, it'll happen anywhere). She was definitely more superstitious than the average Spaniard though.

Nicole is correct. Once again, in order to appease those who feel that all on this board is seen through American eyes, Tuesday the 13th is the equivalent to Friday the 13th (without the crappy movies associated with it) in the U.S. of A.

I wouldn't say that I of us made it unscathed. El Salvador suffered another major earthquake 6.6. It was exactly, one month after a larger 7.6 earthquake hit in January. I will always be amazed with the strong character of Salvadorans despite earthquakes, volcanos erupting, and civil wars. My prayers are with them.
