My travel companions are concerned about smoking in Spain. I have read the forum posted in Sept 2000, but I still have a few questions. Can one buy Marlboro lights in Spain? If you can't what would be similar? How many cigarettes can one bring with them to Spain?
If anyone can help, my travel companions would be greatful.

You can buy Marlboro products in any country on the planet.

You will be surprised that Marlboro cigarettes are cheaper in Spain than the U.S. When I was there, it costs less than $3.00. You can only buy cigarettes at what they call "T" which is a stand. These stands are normally closed on Sundays and M-S, they closed after 8PM.

They also have cigarette machines all over in bars. It's more money of course, but you pay for convenience.

It's over 3 years since I gave up (40 a day)this vile, filthy and disgusting habit! Haha! We ex-smokers are always the worst!

So I'm a bit out of touch, but I know that in Malaga at most traffic lights there are still people selling contraband Marlboro and Winston at way below the price in the tobacconist shops. You can also see the fast launches full of ciggies coming from Gibraltar, aiming to dodge the Guardia Civil on the beaches of La Linea!

If you wanted to try a Spanish brand, Fortuna has Lights, Ultra Lights, and Reds. They are also cheaper.

Buy a carton of Marlboro at the Duty Free before you leave the United States. It will cost $20.00. You are allowed one carton per person and you must show your boarding pass.

Upon return home, you again can buy at Duty Free in Spain BUT whatever brand of cigarettes you purchase, they will raise the price about $4 american if you are flying to the United States.

My husband smokes and this was our recent experience.

I'm not sure if it's still this way, but as one exits the Metro at some of the Principal stations, one sometines finds people selling cigarettes in the Metro concourse. Marlboro is one of their main brands, but I have been told that they may be counterfeit Marlboros from the Canary Islands.
You are probably safer buying a duty free carton at your US Departure point and taking it with you.

Try L&M. Its similar to Marlboro although I find them smoother. I always bring some back with me.
