2012 Olympics:Madrid wins candidature!

Today Madrid has been selected to host the Olympiads in 2012 by the COE (Spanish Olympic Commitee (the other spanish candidate was Seville).
The rivals are very tough: New York, Londo, Rio de Janeiro, Paris, Buenos Aires, Rome, Budapest, Istambul, Moscow and Capetown.
Go on Madrid 2M12!!!!!

Ok, more information: In May-June of 2004 the International Olympic Com. will decide the best 5 candidatures from those presented. In May of 2005 they will decide which is the winner city. Now the planned infrastrutures are going to be build: An Olympic Stadium (La Peineta Stadium redesigned), olympic swimming pools, basket palace, more subway lines, parkings, access roads,... Madrid beat out Seville on Tuesday by a vote of 157-103 among delegates of Spain's Olympic Committee. (Related item: Future Games ) New York and Moscow already have entered bids. London, Paris and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, are other possible contenders. Germany also plans to submit a bid. The bid deadline is July 15 and the IOC will choose the winner in 2005. The 2004 Summer Olympics are in Athens, Greece, and the 2008 Games are in Bejing. Spain held an Olympics in 1992 when Barcelona hosted the Summer Games. Madrid bid for the 1972 Summer Games, which went to Munich, Germany. Seville had bid for the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

Unfortunately, if you take a look to the contender's list, it's very unlikely it will happen. Nevertheless most of the infrastructures will be built anyway so.....great. Last detail, the official site www.madrid2012.es

That's great! I was able to SEE that on the NEWS!! Our Public TV station in the area actually carries TVE's telediario everyday! They said that Sevilla conceded 'with class'.
Does anyone know about 2010 winter Olympics? When I was in Granada last year they were bidding for it, but I haven't heard anything either way...my guess is no... :-(

I hope all those of you who are so enthusiastic are prepared to put your hands in your pockets and contribute to the enormous costs of the whole, in my opinion, wasteful affair.
Even London is having second thoughts.
Sorry to be a spoilsport, but the Olympics nowadays do nothing to promote peace or sport. Now Coca Cola is another thing...
