One thing I noticed in Madrid is the amount of litter on the streets. It is amongst the worst I have seen in all my travels. Some incidents I witnessed:
- a woman throws a snack bag on the street with a trash bin just 3 feet away
- a man tosses a plate with left over food
- someone throwing prawn shells out of a balcony
- woman picking out toppings from a burger and throwing in on the sidewalk
On a few occassions I did see people use the many trash bins on the streets, but they were all tourists. There are workers sweeping the streets around the clock, but they are fighting a losing battle. I was hoping someone can shed some light on this issue, I don't understand the reason for this behaviour.
