I think mikerod76 is getting close:
I think it means the unique essence of everything spanish, ... It is also the manifestations that occur from this unique essence
Españolismo is something good!! It is
una manera de ser, de vestirse uno y de llevarse. It's the unique way European Spaniards express themselves, their 'body language,' their gestures, and how they behave in mixed company that may include non-Spaniards. Nobility, Pride, Tolerance and Generosity are elements of the definition of
Españolismo I would present.
Sometimes, what I perceive as
Españolismo can be irritating or embarassing (i.e., a Spaniard spending his last 100-pesetas to invite me to a copa de vino when I know he / she can't afford it).
Españolismo among Hispanics less than 2-generations removed from the
Madre Patria is not uncommon (Cubans, for example) but it seems to erode as the generations pass. Maybe it's an 'Old World' vs 'New World' thing ...
