So who or what company or organization is responsible for the hugh 2-dimentional black bulls scattered around?

Bodegas Osborne ( http://www.osborne.es ).

It is a curious story. The big black bulls were initially just publicity, but now have been declared spanish patrimony, and that means they can't be removed from where they are smile I guess they will continue being part of our roads for many years (people here like them as a part of the landscape).

At first the 'bullboards' had advertisements (Veterano or Soberano) but now it looks like they are just all black. Osborne, in el Puerto de Santa Maria (Cadiz) is the Company that first put them up. rolleyes

Now, can someone tell me about the 'windmill farms' in the mountains of Cantabria? They are not 'old' windmills - they are hi-tech modern electricity-generating windmills in groups of 15 or so that one sees from the road and then loses behind a mountain.

Anyone remember the "2-dimentional black bulls" scenes in the Penélope Cruz movie " Jamón Jamón "? One might say, "Beware of Falling BULL B*LLS!" wink

It's my understanding that years ago when they were first constructed it was illegal to have billboards or advertisements along the highways or in the fields. So the Osborne company put these HUGE black bull billboards without words and, since everyone already knew the black bull was the "Mascot" or symbol for Bodegas Osborne that words were not needed and no laws were broken. Can anyone confirm this??

I just used the SEARCH link above/right and found the old thread " Roadside Bull Signs " with A LOT more information and links.

Sorry MM you're a little bit wrong. The advertising on the roads were forbiden some years ago to avoid distractions in drivers and there were lots of advertisments in all the roads. They removed all the advertisment but the bulls because they were defended as a symbol.
About the modern windmills, actually it's the alternative more efficient way to get electricity... you can find them in other places too.
