Has anyone out there tried to get a Spanish drivers' license with their American license? As far as I know, you can drive on your current or AAA international license for six months after which you've got to get the Spanish license. I'm wondering if it's necessary to do all the tests. They're really expensive to do and if there's a way to avoid having to do all that, I'd love to know. Any info? Thanks

RACE (the Spanish equivalent of AAA) can do the paper work for you. You don't need to do the tests. They'll accept your American license and give you a European one. What I'm not sure of is the Spanish residency - I had mine when I got my new license, but I don't remember if it was required. I tend to think it probably is.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear that I don't have to do all the tests. As for the residency, I've got it. So, hopefully that, with my license, should be enough.
