Sunday 26 dec 2004 will be remembered as a record day in the cities of northern Castille.
In Burgos and Leon: over 3 feet of snow accumulated in a few hours. The cities of Valladolid, Palencia, Avila, Segovia, Soria, Logroño, Pamplona, Oviedo, Vitoria and San Sebastian received snow but in these places it was a normal situation.
The Burgos province was totally collapsed,the town of Lerma (central Burgos, just in the middle of the road between Bilbao and Madrid) was buried under 4 feet of snow and -15ºC (5 F).
Thousands of drivers were stopped in the main highway for 17 hours.
About 3500 towns and villages were incomunicated.
All this in the returning day after Christmas.

I am very glad we visited Burgos on the 12th and not the 25th of December!!! However the night shots of the cathedral and the sun the next day are beautiful....and I can only imagine the cold

You could have visited Burgos the 25th...the tricky thing would have been...GETTING OUT OF THERE!
