A mock up of life back in the day

Interesting information about the local railway lines and stations

It was time to leave the Buckie Fishing Heritage Centre and head to Portgordon for some lunch...

I'm lightly pan-frying a pair of herring

Just a couple of minutes cooking on each side

They were delicious. They didn't even make it on to the plate! 😌

It was time for a siesta

Next day I met up with a friend to walk from Portgordon to Spey Bay...

Heading along the seafront at Portgordon

We are heading west

This trail is part of the Speyside Way

Join me for the walk...

Let's get going on the walk from Portgordon to Spey Bay...

Being part of the Speyside Way it is a well trodden track

The first part is along the old railway line

It provides views over the sea and hills

The parapet of one of the granite bridges

A farmhouse on the hill

It's a straight and narrow path but not for long

We're heading to those woods

Into the woods...

We are on the Moray Coast, walking between Portgordon and Spey Bay....

The railway line stops at this bridge

Let's follow this track and see where it takes us.

It is a well trodden path so we should be fine

It takes us deep into the woods

But it is clearly marked

On the right we pass Spey Bay Golf Course

There was a few of these

Fresh firewood

Spey Bay....

We are walking from Porgordon to Spey Bay and the Scottish Dolphin Centre.

As we emerge from the woods we see dwellings

This signals the start of the village of Spey Bay

We pass this - any ideas what it is?

The fields stretching out to the south

Spey Bay attracts many visitors because of this centre

Let's head there

Here is the centre and the firmer ice house

The view to the sea and some dolphin watchers

Let's head inside...

Crowds, colours and a coffee...

Sorry for the delays in posting over the last couple of days but I've been without a mobile signal.
Back to civilisation so all should be fine going forward.

We are in the village of Spey Bay visiting the Scottish Dolphin Centre...

This is the shop...

It was busy because it had started to rain,

Looking out to the courtyard...

This is the Tugnet Ice House. It wals built as p industrial ice house used to store ice for packing salmon from the Spey fishery before it was sent to market.

Having had a good walk, it was time for a coffee

The Centre

A last look. It is time to make our way back to Portgordon...

Let's leave Spey Bay and back to Portgordon..

We leave behind a damp but pretty scene

A resting place on the way back

Someone base been busy back in Portgordon

Music for a Sunday evening

Next day at Strathlene the weather took a turn for the worse

Thunder and lightning forced me off the golf course, but it was a nice evening

The daily weather pattern was changing. The mornings were fine

But the afternoons were wet

Peace in the harbour before heading home to join up with Solemates....

She has Aspergers Syndrome, she was diagnosed with depression at 11 years old when she stopped talking and eating.
In addition she has OCD and selective mutism.
She started as one sole person who began a school strike on each Friday as a protest against accelerating climate change.
This last Friday, millions of children and adults around the world went on stile against climate change.
What an impact 16 year old Greta Thunberg has had so far.

Before leaving The Moray Coast, let's gave a final look at Portgordon harbour...

A look across the Firth of Forth

The pebbled shore

The outer harbour

My parking spot

The inner harbour

Coming up tomorrow - out and about with Solemates...

This week's Sunday Snaps can be found here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-49734427

Let's get going...

Would you walk with me in the old Deeside Railway Line with our walking group Solemates ...

On the way, we will see some of the railway stations within the city and also some of the rural ones

A cast iron fence post

These are lots of bridges

The line passes a cemetery

One of the old platforms at a former town station

And this, the station

This time we are going over a bridge rather than under it

The view from the bridge

Getting rural...

We are heading west on the disused Deeside railway ine but there is no train in sight. The line fell foul of Beecham's massive cuts is the '60s...

Remnants of a bygone age

Another platform almost covered by the undergrowth

Another one!

We are on the outskirts if the city, heading to Cults

One of the rural stations

How it was back in the day

Some information of interest...

Cults and a coffee..

A former station building on the Deeside Line

We are nearing our destination, Cults

Cults is a wealthy suburb of Aberdeen

More former station buildings, thankfully preserved for future generations

We are at our destination

Coffee in the Cults Hotel...
