I've been based in Buckie for a couple of days and today is my last full day. I've been walking and having lunch with a friend.
We've just walked from Buckie to Strathlene, had fish and chips for lunch and now we're heading back to Buckie. On the way let's explore some of the small streets of Portessie...

The back streets are very narrow

They are only one row deep

Some are in the shadow of the hillside

Echoes from a more righteous past

Portgorden in the late afternoon...

My final morning. It was a bonnie day

This week's Sunday Snaps can be found here -

It is time to head home. To this!...

Walking in a winter wonderland...

On my return to Aberdeen, the snow there had been when I was away in the van was now beginning to melt away. Then suddenly, a couple of days later, it returned.

I took these photographs on the way into town to do some shopping...

There was a decent covering on the residential roads

It was a bonnie sight though.

Strolling in Sheddcksley Woods on the outskirts of town...

It was a brisk morning, just right for a stroll in the snow at Sheddocksley Woods on the outskirts of town. This is an area of town I've never explored before, despite living in Aberdeen for a long, long time.

We are heading to these woods in the distance

There is a good track, but it was icy

The frozen surface of a burn

A view to the hills in the west

An old drystane dyke

There is still some farming in the area. Most of Aberdeen was farmland

A view to the north

It was a very pleasant walk.
There are a couple of trail routes in the area and the following day I went back again.... It was icy - ouch!

This was my second time walking in Sheddocksley Woods on the outskirts on Aberdeen. The snow was still on the ground...

It was a bracing day

I wanted to check out a longer walking route

We pass path-side houses

As we head for a track through the woods

Perhaps a loading/unloading ramp for sheep

It was a beautiful winter's morning but I have to say that I slipped and fell on a particularly icy patch of ground. No damage done to my body - just my pridr:!

A view over the open countryside with some hills in the distance

I had a choice

I went to the right

Was this the correct decision?...

As I walked on, it became clear that this was quite a long walking route!

The route passed snow covered fields

A downhill section proved difficult because of the ice and I upended myself - again!

Fortunately there was no one around to witness this!

The path continued to be icy

Now we are in open countryside

Then the rough path became a well defined track. Even though, I continued carefully after having already clattered on my rear end.

This is Bucksburn to the north west of Aberdeen

Flights paths...

Our walk in the woods takes us close to the flight path for the northerly runway of Dyce Airport.

As we turn for home we pass this body of water

This is on another flight path

I passed this old farm building inside the city limits

That was the end of the route that I wanted to explore. There is still one remaining to be investigated.

A couple of days later more snow arrived

It was quite pretty

Van problems...

The snow had returned...

It was pretty

It looked like Christmas, even though it was February

Van problems - I'd had a slow loss of air from one of the tyres on the van since my trip to Buckie and the Moray Coast. Once the snow had mostly gone it was into the garage for a repair.

The problem was fixed so I headed off to the beach for a stroll...

Brr..

It was cold

Passing the leisure facilities

I hope you are enjoying a peaceful and restful weekend, whether you are at home or travelling.
Here, the days are definitely getting longer and the temperature picked up a bit this weekend.

We are walking along the promenade at Aberdeen Beach on our way yo the historic fishing village of Footdee...

The leisure centre

The ice rink with Pittodrie football stadium in the distance

Looking north along the promenade

Part of the Beach Ballroom

The Beach Ballroom - an iconic building

Looking south to Footdee

A former viewing platform

The sandy beach

Amusements and restaurants

The walk continues...

Let's continue our walk along the beach to Footdee..

It was high tide

In unusual café - a converted double decker bus

A boundary wall of Footdee

An entrance to the village

One of the houses is unusually tall - looks a bit out of place

A fort protected Footdee and Aberdeen. This stone marks the site.

The old Gospel Hall

Marine operations...

We have been visiting the old fishing village of Fittee (Footdee) down by Aberdeen beach..

It is down here at the mouth if the harbour basins that we see the marine operations towers.

The former marine operations tower

Looking across the mouth of the river Dee to Balnagask Golf Course

A ventilation tower and the new marine operations tower

The reflections of the noon day sun on the water with Torry beyond

A fishing boat on its way to the harbour

The back of Fittee

Looking along the northern breakwater

The village...

A few more village scenes...
