We are exploring the old quarter of Padrón...

The stones at the foot of the cross are interesting. That are carved.

Let's continue our walk

These doors are impressive

I've fixed the missing images of the carved stone in yesterday's post above.

Here are more photos taken on a walk through the old quarter of Padrón, A Coruña in Galicia, Spain...

A view over the Rio Ulla

The banks of the Ulla

One of the many narrow streets in the old quarter of Padrón

A traditional town house

I find it fascinating to walk around the old quarter of the places I visit.

More from historic Padrón...

Crosses or crucieros are found in many squares

Galicians like to commemorate the worthy

We headed to the coast for some lunch

But the battery on my phone was almost empty so this is the last photo that was taken on that day.

The following day I had some time to explore some of the old part of Boiro...

We are walking in Boiro where I am staying with friends...

Let's head to the main church in the town centre, Santa Baia de Boiro.

Tombstones outside the church

It us time to leave Santa Baia de Boiro

This is the cross in front of the Pazo de Fonteneixe (a pazo is a stately home)

This is the pazo

As the weather continues warm in north west Spain, we are heading to a pitch and putt course between Boiro and Noia.

It is in an area called Macenda

It is quite unique

There is so much to see here...

One if the features of Macenda is the amount of large boulders. This is a small one.

Here is part of a picnic area

It has a built-in barbeque

As well as this, it has its own cross

The church is dedicated to San Xoán de Macenda

It is a lovely wee church

Let's head to the golf club

This is delightful...

Today, it is the 11th day of the 11th month and at the 11th hour we remember those who bravely fought and lost their lives in World War I.
One hundred years later and death still features in the news this week with the music bar shooting in Thousand Oaks, Calif., where 12 were gunned down.
Our thoughts and prayers should also be with those affected by the wildfires in Calif where 24 people have lost their lives and 200,000 have been displaced.
It is ironic that a town called Paradise has be wiped out by these hell fires.

Returning to Galicia...
We are in the parish of Macenda near Boiro in Galicia, Spain. We have come to play pitch and putt at the nearest golf club - Barbanza Golf

It is a delightful place...

Thus is the clubhouse

Every good Galician golf club has its own traditional store or hórreo

The terrace of the clubhouse

Time to tee off

Can you see the large boulders?

The are everywhere. This one overshadows Dominique in the tee

This week, the Sunday Snaps can be found here

Tees with a view...

We are playing pitch and putt at Barbabza Golf in the parish of Macenda near Boiro.

It is hilly course

As a result, some of the tees command great views

The weather was very hot so the the clubhouse and refreshments were a welcome end to the morning round of pitch and putt...

The vibe covered courtyard

One of the locker roomd

Reception

The bar

Mmmm - freshly made paella on the terrace...

Following our round of pitch and putt we had lunch on the terrace of the clubhouse of Barbanza Golf...

The tiny terrace

It has a beautiful outlook though

Preparing the paella

From paella pan to plate

The delicious food was complemented by delightful views

I really enjoyed the day there. We'll be back!

We are off an a mini tour of the locality of Boiro. Although I have been coming here for three years, I've not visited many of the local places.

First up is the nearby community of Cespón...

Many of the communities here have very rural roots

You could sum up Galicia in two words - vines and crosses

Not one, not two but three!...
