The weather was unusually good in Keswick (it rains a lot there) as we were still in the midst of the long hot summer of 2018. This led to dome great sunsets.

We are back on the temporary camp site relaxing and watching the sun go down. I was duty officer there so I had time chatting to others and helping where necessary.

The sun begins to set

When the weather is good it is a beautiful place

In town it was just as pertacular

There was however a change in the weather

It was great being away in the van for such a long period of time, especially with good weather. The rhythm of life is a little different.

We are in the Lake District so let's head down to one of the lakes - Derwentwater

A popular tavern in town

We did manage some pitch and putt games

With a cuppa and cake afterwards

And a BBQ

The sun goes down on another trip to the Lake District

It's time to pack up the van and head back to Scotland...

Back in Aberdeen, it was time to get the van ready to head off to the Moray Coast for ten days, but first it was off to the beautiful Dunecht Estate with a visiting friend...

Heading through the gates to the estate

This is the track through mature woods to the main house

It was a colourful walk as the berries were showing on the bushes

The nurseries for growing plants which are sold on to the public

This door looks old

It is!

A surprise encounter...

We headed up to the former stables..

This would have been a coach house and stables

Notice the former wide archway suggesting a former entrance in bygone days

This was the main entrance to the stables with an impressive clock

This is the internal courtyard

We met one if the estate workers who offered to show us the former stables

The horse heads at each stall were impressive

Each stall had it's own water supply and trough

Outside, there were rings to tie up the horses

The cobbled courtyard and the entrance to the stables

Outside the stables, an inspection out was pointed out to us

Beyond it and hidden by the bushes was this

An icehouse

If you did not know it was there, you would not notice it

We're heading to the house on the hill

Dunect House

Water runs into the burn that crosses the golf course

The water comes from the magnificent Policy Loch

It is a lovely spot to visit

This bench provides a perfect viewpoint

These boats have been rowed ashore

It's time to head off, with a last look back

These are some of the cottages just outside the estate

It is time to leave Dunecht Estate, leave Aberdeen and head north to the Moray Coast....

Before leaving the village of Dunecht, we went for for some food...

The bar/restaurant was very quiet

We were too early to eat so we headed into town for some food elsewhere

As I type this, the main news headlines are focused on the weather systems causing havoc in North and South Carolina and in the Philippians and Hong Kong. The trauma caused by evacuations, destruction to property and the death of loved ones must be immense. Let's be thoughtful of those affected by Florence and Mangkhut.

Back to my travels...
The next day it was time to head off to the Moray Coast and meet up with a friend.

We headed to Pluscarden Abbey near Elgin...

Parked up before heading to the gates that lead to the Abbey

Let's head through the gates

Heading up to the Abbey
