If you are renting a car in Spain you may be interested in gas prices. The Spanish government list them all at the Ministery of Economy official site.
http://www.mineco.es/carburantes/index.asp

They have just started but they plan to update prices in real time.

Regards,

Antonio

As i plan my trip and try and decide what it will cost to travel by car what can I expect to pay for gas and what is an easy way to convert it to cost per 100 km, I will probably rent a midsize car as there are 3 of us traveling and my oone daughter is tall so we need the leg room. Thanks for help, Peg

It looks like it cost about ESP 148 /litre in the Cadiz area around the beginning of June. That's regular sin plomo. Mid-grade was about 10-pesetas higher.
If you are going to be doing much driving on toll roads, you also have to consider the cost of tolls. They can be quite expensive.

Thanks for the gas prices. Does anyone know what kind of mileage I can expect on a rental? I'm thinking they must be kind of economical because they are small cars.Peg

Good Luck!

Mabella, thanks for the great record keeping. Did you drive in Madrid at all? HOw were the roads? And one more question, where did you rent your car, from the states or in spain? I got a rate of 300US for 7 days unlimited mileage. Thanks Peg

Peg I've driven quite a bit in Spain and Europe. The quality of the roads physically is better than in US, though I am from NYC so that's not saying much. The expressways are great, though people drive faster. It's really not a big deal to drive here, just take it at your own pace. One thing, stop if someone is crossing a road, as pedestrians expect this.

Driving in the cities should be familiar to an American: constant traffic jams. Better to use mass transit.

You can reserve online with hertz, avis, and that bunch worldwide - might want to reserve a car first.

Peg: When I visited last Nov. I got a rate thru Avis @ a 30% discount. If you are an AARP member(who knows?) there are also discounts. Anyway I spent $120.00 USD for 8 days w/unlimited mileage & no drop off fee seeing as I picked up in Malaga & dropped off in Seville. The mileage I got on the upgraded car(always ask for smallest)was 45 MPG on diesel and Gas was 130 psts. per liter. This at the time was about 2.50 gal.I think gas prices are Govt.regulated. You'll do just fine. Enjoy! laugh
