I'm posting a little later than usual today because I'm back on the road again.

Let's continue having a look at Portgordon...

The barometer in the harbour

The village

Hmmm... which way now?

An example of some of the fine architecture in Portgordon

and the typically low fishing cottages

The anchor memorial at the harbour

I must report that the weather was very variable on this year's trip to the Buckie area

But I did get the opportunity to get the fishing rod out of the cupboard - no one told the fish though!

The rocky beach

and a seafront drying green

There is a seal colony at Portgordon...

I hope you have been having a good weekend and that you were able to get out and about. If not then at least you will have had some good sport to keep you entertained.

On the Moray Coast, the weather has been mixed.

Dating from the 19th century, the ice house

It is an unusual ice house in that it is sited on the shore and
excavated rather than being built into side of hill

Let's walk from the ice house to Buckie and see what we encounter on the way...

A former railway line bridge. A train used to run up and down the coastline

The grassy seashore

In the distance, a possible salmon bothy or small house

Sunday Snaps from around Scotland can be found here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-40825228

The walk continues...

Let's continue our walk from Portgordon to Buckie...

In the distance, Buckpool, now a part of Buckie

Step to a stony beach

A bench with a view

Our next point of interest is Yardie, a conservation area of fishing cottages...

with narrow lanes

traditional houses

and cottages

many of which have been modernised

For protection, they are built end-on to the sea

I was up in the area for the Keswick in Buckie Convention and based myself in Portgordon and commuted the two miles to Buckie each day.

I enjoyed being in Portgordon as it was a peaceful location...

At the harbour, you only hear the boats entering and leaving the harbour

and could benefit from the rising and the setting of the sun

A view over the bowling green and village

Seagulls and sunsets...

The Fishing Heritage Centre in Buckie

There are some great walks in the area, the most famous of which is the Speyside Way. Here is part of it...

There is also this one too

A viewpoint over the harbour

Looking west

Looking east

One of the original parts of Buckie...

More from Seatown...

We are in Seatown, a pretty part of Buckie. Let's have a walk around...

Its narrow streets

Washing in the wind

Traditional stone houses

and a memorial chapel to the men of the sea

Lanes or closes between houses allow easy movement from street to street

Strathlene...

We now head east away from Buckie, through the communities of Ianstown, Gordonsburgh and Portessie to Strathlene. In reality, these communities forma continuous seashore strip of seafront houses and businesses.

At Strathlene, we find a former outdoor swimming pool

and an art deco shelter

which overlooks the former swimming pool

The seafront carpark is convenient for coastal walks

Strathlene House is impressive

That very same evening, back in Portgordon, we had a superb sunset

Rivers on the road...

Here is the coastline where I have been on this road trip.

It is a north facing coast so it benefits from eastern sunrises and western sunsets as shone in the previous post and below

In general, the weather was not great this year with lots of showers and some bouts of almost tropical rainfall.
The following photo does not do proper justice to the rivers of rain on the road!

I don't know how it has been where you are but this summer has been a very wet one in the North East of Scotland.

Some friends came to visit the convention and spend the day in the area. We walked from Strathlene to Findochty for lunch...

The grassy yet rocky coastline as we look west

and then east

A secluded, stony bay

The Strathlene golf course sits above the bay

My friends enjoying the walk

It has been yet another week marked by terrorism, this time in Barcelona in Spain and possibly Turku in Finland. Hopefully you have not been directly affected by this but our thoughts and prayers are with all those who have been affected by these events.

It is always a pleasure to visit Findochty (pronounced Finechty). Let's continue the walk from Strathlene to Findochty...

You can see that it was a bonnie day

as we walk in an easterly direction along the coast

Looking back we glimpse the stony shoreline of the bay

and looking ahead, we see the village of Findochty

Before we get there, we need to cross a bridge over a gorge

and pass a small football pitch

Before arriving in the village

Here is the coastline that we have been exploring, from Portgordon in the west to Findochty in the east

Here is the link to this week's Sunday Snaps http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-40904564
