Does anyone know where the E.M.T. bus map/schedule can be picked up? and how much it might cost?

Hi ilovemadrid (nice nick )

You can pick up a free "Plano de Transportes del Centro de Madrid" featuring bus routes, subway lines and even night buses ("búhos") at any tourist office in Madrid.

Also you can buy a bigger map at any kiosk for only 200 pesetas including all the city centre and bus schedules. In my opinion, this is one of the best Madrid maps available.

Regards,

Antonio

The last couple of years I've gotten the free bus maps at the small booths at the main bus stop on the Puerta del Sol. You'll have to ask for them in Spanish and only ask for one as they won't give you more. I tried.

Hi Madridman,

It seems that you don't remember what I told you by e-mail:

I've been trying to get a copy of the bus schedules at the boths in Puerta del Sol, Callao and Cibeles but they *don't publish them* anymore. I will try to check it again at today, but I asked about it lots of times in the past years.

Go to the tourist office and ask for a free maps with the routes marked in red on the map.

By the way, ilovemadrid, I would recommend taking the subway instead. Though buses are quite good, traffic jams make them sometimes arrive.

Regards,

Antonio

Antonio, maybe I remember your email, but don't believe it. hehehe.. See the image of me holding a bus schedule which I got last year (spring 1999) at the bus booth on the Puerta del Sol @ http://www.madridman.com/fotos/busschedule.jpg

Maybe they ONLY give these to tourists now and NOT to Spaniards. Who knows, maybe I got THE last one. hehehee.. Still, I'm sure it would be easier for most people to get them at the tourist offices where the people there will speak English.

Saludos, MadridMan

could you tell me when it was issued?. I think I have a copy of this leaflet and it was pretty old. Also, I've been trying to find a new copy since they usually change routes but they always told me they don't have.

BTW, I hardly read the first line but I guess it says "Empresa Municipal de Transportes, SA". Is there any reference to "Consorcio de Transportes"?. I've been also there and they told me they don't have it. Maybe it was the EMT who published it.

I am thinking... yes, I am going to Sol right now to ask for a copy.

Regards,

Antonio

Hi Antonio. I just sent you an email by the way.

Yes, the pamphlet was issued in March 1998 so I guess it is a little old, but I doubt the routes have changed too much. This does not have a city route, but does have the routes of the individual bus lines and their stops. It lists lines #1 through $150.

GRACIAS MadridMan and Antonio for your help, Antonio were you able to pick one up from the booth in Sol?
MadridMan I agree with you that the best way to get around is to walk, unless of course you are going from Sol to La Vaguada!).
How much are passes for just the metro? Whenever I was in Madrid I used a "Metrobus" which was for the bus and metro, very convenient, but I was wondering how much the ones just for the metro cost.
¡Nuevamente, gracias!

In February 2000, the price of the ticket to ride the metro ten times was 705 pesetas [called "Metrobús"].

Without the Metrobús ticket, the cost of the subway is 135 pesetas per ride.

You buy all subway tickets and passes at the entrance of the metro.
