I'm heading back to Boiro in Galicia on holiday to stay with some good friends. Most of the time will be taken up playing golf but I hope to get out and about a fair bit to savour the sights and sounds and of course the gastronomy of Galicia.

The journey starts this evening with a flight to London and an overnight stay in a hotel, before an early morning flight to Santiago de Compostela.

Love market day. Stumble on it once in a while. The best ones are like this one without tourists. Usually but some fruit, citrus. Always trying to stay healthy on the road.Have to be careful what we eat and drink when we are far from home, especially solo travelers.

Robbieroy, the weather in Spain this year is batting records of 30 years! very hot all over. Last tuesday was 44C in Granada and 41C in Madrid, Galicia is less but it hit 35C. hot all over and still for at least thru mid September.
enjoy the visit anyway
cheers

There is no shortage of wine in the clubhouse

On the first tee

Cooling down the car- it has been unseasonal weather - very hot indeed

On the practice range

Sí señora, nice style

Golf is hard, this makes it harder

This makes it easier

After a difficult round it was back to Boiro for some home made gazpacho, tortilla and pimientos de Padrón and a nice glass of wine.

Let's head towards Boiro de Arriba vía some of the narrow side streets of the town...

We wind our way through some of the older parts of Boiro

Heading towards the church

that you can see in the distance

We pass some attractive buildings on the way

The church and family toombs

Like many others, I enjoy meandering around the old parts of town. Boiro de Arriba (upper Boiro) is an area rich in rural history.

This is the monument at the Church of Santa Baia

And this memorial is found in its grounds

As we continue our climb

We arrive here

We pass lots of old buildings

Some very interesting

Continuing our stroll around Boiro de Arriba...

Some fine restored terraced houses

A walled estate

Shades of days long gone by

This may have been a monastry or convent

One of the many crosses

The entrance to the Pazo de Fonteneixe, a stately home

A little bit about the royal road

The social centre in Boiro

We continue with some more side streets

Nice name for a bar

Buenos días

One misty morning I headed off to explore the road that leads to Cabo de Cruz..

Some side streets on the way

With a curious mixture if the old and new

And expensive

It was a Sunday morning, quite quiet and misty as the walk continued..

past the sports grouns

and more bug houses

then suddenly, up from the beach came these

This shows just how misty it was

An old pier

but not much else to see in the distance

The beach in Boiro has lots of beachfront houses

I like the beach here in Boiro, it is a mixture of fine sands and wooded areas, offering plenty of shade.

The wilder beaches appeal more than the highly manicured beaches of the tourist resorts.

Some sculptures line the promenade

One of the many small bridges

an area for the volleyball courts

and information about the wildlife

One morning, we went for an early morning trip to Padron before heading off to the golf course. Padron sits on the Portuguese Camino de Santiago and sees a lot of pilgrims pass through.

Let's explore...

The River Sar

with some interesting architecture

and wooden sculpture

A dominating church on the hill

looks over the narrow bridge

which crosses the Sar

The old town centre....

Weather-wise, the day of the beach walk was probably the worst day. In general and in line with the rest of Spain, the weather was unseasonably hot.
Early mornings had a refreshing coolness to them. This day was no exception as we visited Padron.

One of the many small plazas

One of the many churches

In the old quarter

I quite like the feel of Padron, especially the casco antiguo.

Its arched walkways

and hints of a much grander past

that echoes in the narrow streets

and squares

Yes please!

The town house or Concello

Evidence of its strong religious past

Before heading to the golf course - a bit of breakfast

It has been a great holiday! The main focus was being with friends and playing golf and both those were certainly achieved. The weather was very good and favourable for golf so less day trips were undertaken this year.

I always enjoy the 20 minute drive through the Galician countryside to the club.
Here is a morning of low cloud on one of those drives

I enjoyed the routine of a short practice on the range

before heading out to the course

With its rustic outbuildings

Wee that is it from my trip this year so we now gave to say goodbye to Galicia for another year.

I've just seen a report on Galician TV that this farmacia (to the right of the photograph) in Padron has been in business for 200 years and under the management of the same family.
