Tapas and wine or beer are a way of life and one we all look forward to. And tapas are always better when they're free and good. Fun article from El Pais and perfect for anyone exploring some of the cities in Spain.

We will be in Madrid, Cordoba, and Granada in a few weeks and my Spanish is very limited to say the least, so I could really use some help. My question is this, we are looking forward to enjoying LOTS of tapas but we do not eat pork. Will the tapas bars be ok with you asking for something without pork in it? And most important of all, what is the most polite way to ask them in Spanish for tapas without pork? Also, from what I can tell most places do have a non-alcoholic beer available, does anyone have a preference? Thank you so much for the help and the link above, will definitely be writing a few of those places down.

Welcome to Madridman Penelope R

pork is a big thing but not the only one, plenty of tapas without pork such as seafood and the wonderful tortilla (omelettes) and the patatas bravas ,potatoes with a spicy sauce delicious.
Tapas is it and cheaper if done standing in the bar. In Spanish you can simply say Por Favor, prefiero mi tapa que no sea hecha con carne de cerdo. Will be the easiest way to say it

For the beer do not know never had non alc it is really not beer, sorry

hope it helps

Yes Pedmar, that will help so much. Now to write that down at the top of my where to eat list so I don't forget. We always love to eat like the locals when we travel and try more traditional foods rather than the same old stuff we can get back home. Can't wait to try lots of tapas and thanks again.
