I laughed out loud when I read this article in El Pais:

I had forgotten about Javier Bardem in Jamon, Jamon!

I have to go in Museo De Jamon, its pretty lively. When I am there in Madrid I eat a mixto. It is a toasted ham sandwich with a hole on top for a fried egg [sunny side up] I don't have the fancy hams mentioned in the article. I once had the suckling pig at Botin. Big mistake. When on the road scrambled eggs with cubed ham works well.

Somewhere (from a website I wrote years ago) I remember Javier Bardem's mother owned a restaurant in Madrid. Anyone know if it is still around? Of course I don't remember the name of it ... nor the site cited.

Does anyone - anywhere in Spain -still keep a ham in the living room?

Bardemcilla in Chueca closed 2 years ago-it was a shock for the workers. They showed up for work only to find it had closed.
I had lunch there once and was not impressed with the food-tiny portions and poor service. I do remember the pretty flowers painted on the walls and the menus!

Museo del Jamon is nice, but if want theh top of the line on jamon bellota go to Sanchez Romero on Castellana 178, pricey but the best. It was my mother's favorite shop and still is mine when in town.
It is a gourmet grocery store and cafeteria on the counter.

By the way, I am in the business(finance part ::)) and from Salamanca out to Trujillo is the best breeding grounds.
