I hear that El Schotis in Cava Baja, Madrid has closed recently, probably a victim of recession and changing tastes. It was a delightfully old fashioned bar\restaurant and I always visited for a drink or two when in Madrid. I suppose there are so many options on that street that it wont really be missed. A pity. I will be there in a few weeks time and it will be interesting to see what has replaced it.

well yes many have due to recession etc, and some from my time are not longer there but the fabulous El Schotis closed because of inherence and take over work issues
The owner died and the restaurant by will pass to the oldest 6 employees of it, then five of these employees retired and the 6th one did not want continue with the place along so the decision was reach to close and sell.

But its been over a year already, here is the news in Spanish at El Mundo newspaper

As you correctly said, the area has plenty of choices.
