We're spending 4 days in Valencia in late September.
Any recommendations? We like quirky places( eg Hostal Les Monges Palace in Alicante & Arthostal in Barcelona). Need an ensuite room with TV.
Around 50 euros per night would be our target
price. But will pay more if needed.

Glad to hear you're going to Valencia City. NICE!

I can only really comment on those "hostales" on the beach - which I don't really recommend for their location UNLESS "the beach scene" is what you're seeking. These beach hostels (called "hostales" in Spain/Spanish) are about 35 minutes away from the city center using public transportation.

There are a surprising FEW "hostales" in Valencia with websites. Who knows why.

The few near the Old city center include the following:

Hostal Jero: http://hostaljero.es/ , near Plaza de Toros.
Hostal Antiguo Morellana: http://www.hostalam.com/ , near Plaza de la Reina.
Pensión Lyón: http://www.telefonica.net/web2/sanabara/lyon/ , near the Valencia train station.
Hostal Venecia: http://www.hotelvenecia.com , Plaza del Ayuntamiento.
Pensión Paris: http://www.pensionparis.com , in the Old Town Valencia.

But just so's you know, the word in your subject link, "Hostale", doesn't exist in any language. "Hostales" is the plural form and "hostal" is the singular form. Maybe it was a typo.

I'm very well thanks. I got back to the UK last month, after an extended holiday to SE Asia.(Laos & Malaysia)
So we're now planning our Spanish trip. As usual we will be following the last 11 days of the Vuelta, then staying on in Madrid( Hostal Chelo)for a few days, after which we are heading down to Valencia(to be booked) and Alicante ( Les Monges Palace).
We've not been to Valencia before so any pointers are appreciated.
Yes...it was a typo !!

We are at present staying at Hotel Valencia www.hotel-valencia.com for 60 euros +iva per night. This includes a good continental breakfast. Free Wifi is available throughout the hotel. Its in a good position in a side road just a couple of mins from Valencia N train station. The only downside at the moment, is that the road outside is having new pipes laid so it is noisy from 8am, though I would expect the work to be finished in the next week.
We had a look at Pension Paris ( mainly because they advertise "Wifi zone"), the man there speaks good english and the Pension looks clean and is certainly in a very nice area. BUT and its a big but.....they don't take advance bookings!! You have to go on the day and see what rooms they have. They accept credit cards, so I asked if one paid a deposit, would they take a booking? er No... evidently its because guests may wish to stay on beyond their original booked time. Which as I'm in the same trade seems a ludicrous way to go about running guest accommodation ... but each to their own I suppose. Also the Wifi is non existent.
Having browsed the outsides of several other Hostales etc. I think we made the right choice with Hotel Valencia and will return to here next year for a longer stay.
