Palencia and Valladolid are somewhat ignored. The Cathedral in Palencia is interesting with carvings by Gil de Siloe. It is called La Bella Desconocida.[ the Beautiful Unknown One] . There are many shops and restaurants like any city, but few tourists. Nearby, Valladolid boasts the magnificent Museo Nacional de Escultura [polychrome wood sculpture] Its housed in the Colegio de San Gregorio the facade is also from Siloe. Nearby the facade of San Pablo is of interest. From here its easy to get to Burgos, where there are many Gothic Masterpieces [Cathedral, Cartuja de Miraflores, Las Huelgas]. Not many tourists in Burgos yet. Its only an hour from Burgos to Leon. Michener really praised Leon in his book IBERIA and I agree. [Gothic Cathedral, Basilica de San Isidoro] My favorite region in Spain.
